General Information

Here is some useful information for attending retreats at Land of Joy.

What to bring

Warm clothes – for most of the year! And certainly outdoor waterproof shoes/wellies and waterproof coats if you wish to go outside in the grounds and beyond. This is essential for the “Mindfulness in Nature” retreats. The area can be quite marshy in places so you will get muddy if its wet. Indoor shoes/slippers. Land of Joy will provide you with bedding, towels, and a meditation cushion or chair for the meditation room.

Making a Booking

If you are ready to join a retreat, please click on the ‘BOOK HERE’ link at the end of each retreat description on the respective retreat page. Please bear in mind, if you book a place and cancel it at last minute we may not be able to fill your place and someone will lose out. Therefore, please only book a retreat if you are certain you can attend. We request that you don’t book simply to reserve a place until you are sure, but that you wait until you’re sure and then book! As we offer retreats free of charge, we hope you’ll respect this request.

If you are unable to use the internet booking system, please phone us on 01434 240 412 and we’ll make the booking for you.

Retreat Sessions

All retreatants are expected to attend all sessions and complete the full retreat. If this will be difficult for you, please contact the office before you book your retreat.

Food Policy

Land of Joy offers three meals a day, consisting of a healthy balanced vegetarian diet. This may include eggs and dairy produce. For people with specific medical conditions and allergies, please state this information clearly on your booking form and we’ll do our best to accommodate you. All our menus will contain information about food with allergenic ingredients such as nuts, gluten, soya etc. If you have concerns about your needs, please let us know.

Room Cleaning

All participants are asked to clean their rooms and strip their bed before departure.

Access for People with Disabilities

Land of Joy is an old house but we do have ground floor access to toilets, the dining room and meditation room for those with some restricted mobility. While we aim to have wheelchair access and disabled accommodation available as soon as possible, we are unable to offer it yet. We currently only have one ground floor bedroom. Please contact us before you book a retreat if you have any mobility needs.
