Accommodation

We are currently able to host around 18 people, and there is also the option of staying in local B+B’s, or even camping in the grounds. In the future we hope to build more single rooms in the courtyard outbuildings. But for now, here are some details of what we can offer.

Rooms

We have 3 dormitory rooms with a mixture of single and bunk beds. We also have some smaller rooms. There are currently no single rooms available. Two of the dorms have en-suite bathroom facilities, other rooms share nearby bathrooms. If you need a bottom bunk, please specify this on your retreat booking form. We have one ground floor bedroom reserved for those with disabilities or serious difficulty with stairs. Please note, there is currently no shower on the ground floor. Please let us know if you have any specific needs regarding accommodation and we’ll do our best to help!

Camping

Obviously only in the spring/summer months – and even then of course it is likely to rain! We don’t have professional camping facilities at this stage. The only bathrooms are those in the house which can be used by the campers. If you’d like to bring a caravan or camper van this could also be possible, just let us know before you book so we can be sure of where you can stay. Again, at this stage we don’t have electric sockets or waste facilities for any camping/caravan options. In the future we’ll provide more infrastructure for happy campers.

Local B+B/Hotel/Hostels

There are a number of local places to consider:

Hexham: One of our regular retreatants can offer a single room in Hexham for some of our retreats in exchange for a lift back and forth to Land of Joy. Please contact the manager at Land of Joy if you want to discuss this offer.

The Holly Bush Inn: Our favourite place for eating out! Only 2 mins walk from Land of Joy. Provides B+B, meals, and a very friendly atmosphere. They even stocked alcohol free beer for us Buddhists! (Price range £60 to £100 depending on room.)

Riverdale Hall Hotel: This is a luxury hotel for those who like a swimming pool, sauna, and room for a pony. This one’s in Bellingham, our nearest town with shops, and 4 miles from Land of Joy. Car would be needed, or an hour walking up boggy hills and down again!

Other options in Bellingham: We’ll add more here as we become familiar with the area, but there are quite a few places in Bellingham which would be fine for those with cars. See this link for more info:
